Tulip Crayon Resist Paintings - Grades K - 2

This is a very easy and fun project for the younger grades. I was trying to think of a project for Spring and came up with this tulip idea.  The students trace their own hand with crayons to create the tulip design, and then color in the tulip (pressing hard with crayons).

Then I had them do a wash of blue watercolor over the tulips to create a resist effect.  They loved this magical effect!   Unfortunately I did not have any liquid blue watercolor paint, so I premixed blue watercolor paint washes in cups, and then reused the cups for other classes doing this project as well.

Materials:
White paper
Crayons
Blue watercolor (premixed)
